A Page with a Purpose

This is not a heading. It is 24 point bold normal text. The headings start below.

This is a page with a purpose. How shall we organize this page?

In the traditional way, we might use bullets to create an outline format.

This is clear on a printed page, less practical on a wiki BUT we can use hyperlinks

THINK of a WIKI page as a journal article.

Journal articles indicate structure through consistent use of heading styles.

In Word, you can create a table of contents based on Heading styles.

That's the way it works with wikis.

  • Each heading below has been given a different weight (H1, h2, h3, etc.)
  • The  Table of Contents widget was generated as shown here:

Can you easily find the lesson on Link Loops in the maze of information indexed below?

You need to create headings so that students can quickly identify important items in a maze of text

Section 1 has two parts

Part 1 for section 1

There is an introduction

and maybe a couple of paragraphs here

Part 2 for section 1

There's a bit of content here

Maybe even some charts or images

Section 2 has three parts, let's call it Link Loops

Part 1 introduction to Section 2 - What is a Link Loop?

This part is about what is a link loop and why do you need to know about it

http://vanceposterous.wordpress.com/2012/06/13/teaching-teachers-how-to-create-simple-link-l/

If this isn't clear to you, study it until it makes sense.

The idea of linking from one place to another and back again is critical in effective design of online spaces

One serendipitous affordance of creating links in wikis is that they are open, hence searchable in Google

(now where did I ... ???)

Part 2 an example of a Link Loop

Create a Portal for your course in any online space

Here is a sample portal created in a Google Doc

https://docs.google.com/document/d/10jlgn3nflfuxCaip63ZoJQofQIXIMko4TZ3HTOufkp0/edit

The link ABOVE link starts a link loop

  • Click on the link above and you go there
  • From there, you can find a link to bring you back here
  • it loops

Blah blah blah 3rd part

Section 3

and so on

Resources

Resource 1

Joan's link

Resource 2

Etc.

Assignments

We all like to make lots of assignments

And so on
